Youth Summit

THE YOUTH SUMMIT

Vienna and Budapest, from 28 August to 6 September 1998

For the first time the youth will get a chance to issue their opinion on the development towards an information society at an IFIP World Congress. Therefore the European Future Forum of the Youth in cooperation with the European Youth Parliament will invite 50 students from around the globe to a Youth Summit parallel to the IFIP World Computer Congress ’98. 35 delegates from Europe and 15 from America, Asia, Africa and Australia will come to Vienna and Budapest from 28 August to 6 September 1998.
They will work in 5 committees on the following topics:

Teleteaching - Challenges to education systems: possibilities and dangers
Telecooperation - Necessary and inevitable changes in work life
Social Affairs - The question of the integration of fringe groups: chances and dangers
Political affairs - Intellectual Property Rights and free flow of information
Youth affairs - The role of the youth and their possibilities to promote the development towards the information society

In addition Austrian, Hungarian and European politicians will be invited to committee meetings to inform the delegates about current political developments and to discuss the views of the youth. This would ensure an effective exchange of views between the young, politicians and scientists.

Aims:
The delegates will give their views as recipients of information and users of information technology rather than experts in its development. By inviting them we would like to combine the fresh ideas of young people with the knowledge of scientists. As a consequence new projects concerning schools and universities shall be initiated in cooperation with the scientists of the specific countries.
The results of this Youth Summit will be published in an appropiate form.

29 August 1998:	Team building activities
30 August 1998:	Participation in different seminars and first committee meetings, Evening: welcome cocktail
31 August 1998:	Opening session, participation in specific sessions, presentations during the poster session Evening: reception by the Lord Mayor of Vienna
1 September 1998:	Committee meetings, participation in specific sessions, presentations during the poster session Late afternoon: Reception by CEPIS celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies
2 September 1998:	Transfer from Vienna to Budapest by train and ship
3 September 1998:	Opening session, committee meetings, participation in specific sessions, presentations during the poster session, Hungarian evening
4 September 1998	Committee meetings, participation in specific sessions, summary at the Closing Ceremony, Evening: Euro-party
5 September 1998:	Workshops and seminars
6 September 1998:	Departure of delegates
