[IEEE] IEEE Computer Society, Technical Committee on Computational Medicine

Welcome to the ICCHP ´96!

During the last years life and work conditions as well as the possibilities of personal fulfillment have significantly improved for handicapped people. So far undreamt-of chances could be realized by research and development in rehabilitation and communication technology. This process is enhanced by a broader understanding for the limitations handicapped persons are confronted with - in this increase the media have played an important role.

Nevertheless those concerned as well as those responsible complain that often development does not really consider - or even pass by - the needs of the handicapped and that interdisciplinary aspects are scarcely taken into due account.

The 5th International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs aims at the task to forge links between the areas of research and development in computer science, rehabilitation technology, medicine, architecture, and social sciences.

The Conference itself, the workshops of the preconference, as well as the accompanying exhibition, the Internationa l Computer Camp and the "Österreich-Tag" shall have a mutual stimulating effect.
