The annual conference of the Technical Committee, 11 SEC ’98, covers a wide range of security related topics. It comprises both emphasis on technical as well as commercial aspects of information security. With the emerging importance of modern communication technologies and with the global electronic marketplace one of the special targets of the 1998 annual conference is the security aspect of electronic commerce in the Global Information Infrastructure.
Within the SEC conference, TC11, in the name of IFIP, is actively contributing to both technical and social aspects of information security. For the first time this is a joint effort with the IFIP World Computer Congress. As such this is an opportunity to effectively and formally express that IT-Security is getting broader importance as well as attention.
SEC ’98 is an event that proves that security technology is on its way from being an add on technology to become a basic infrastructure.
With conferences like SEC ’98 the professional society responds to the rapidly developing standards as well as their impact on human factors. Besides presenting a forum for information exchange in the technical, management and social arena, IFIP is taking its opportunities in areas like education of an increasingly broad public, generating user awareness, ongoing policy monitoring, and others.
By being part of the WCC ’98 this conference shows that IT-Security is an enabling technology of today and tomorrow.
