reflections on ICCHP 98

Attendance at the paper sessions was quite high. I leave it to the attendees to judge on the success of the program. The perception of attendees was that the organization was smooth. The facilities were good, the technology (computers and displays, overhead projector etc all worked!). The organizers were very good at supplying extra technology as required.

There were some problems of drop-out of participants. A significant number withdrew after their papers had been accepted. This meant there had to be a large scale change to the program. One presenter withdrew after having submitted the final version of their paper ( but before the final program was printed). Three presenters did not show at the conference-without any warning.
One other was unable to attend due to an airline strike, but he did inform me by email as soon as he could.. I am not sure why the drop-out rate was so high nor how it could be avoided.
