Robotics and Engineering AcaDemY
The aim of the project is to create a consistent and gender sensitive curriculum for the areas "measuring, controlling and regulating" from primary school to graduation level.
Robot technology is used because it is motivating and connects the different competences.
The project READY will develop a curriculum which leads to an official certificate.
The schools which participate in the project are provided with robot building sets fitting the age of the students.
- For primary schools the robot building set of LEGO WeDo Education Kit is used. In the first two grades children use symbols on wooden blocks to programme (programming language CHERP of the Tufts University, MA).
- In the 3rd and 4th grade the programming language SCRATCH is used, which was developed especially for kids.
- For the secondary school levels I + II different technologies are evaluated but also LEGO Mindstorms NXT kits are used.
The gender aspect is given special attention in all matters. For the secondary school level I the OCG offers a special certificate. For the primary school and secondary school II levels respective certificate could be developed at project end.
The business partners IBM Austria and T-Systems Austria show the pupils current and innovative technological developments of automatisation and similar areas. The buddy system is also used here.
The PH Wien (University of Teacher Education, Vienna) evaluates the implementation of the project according to gender aspects. Students of the PH are also involved in the project.
